Rat Rod Magazine is produced by a father and son team in beautiful Minnesota, USA.
Our Mission Statement: We've put this magazine together to showcase the creativity behind rat rods and the people who build them. We're not here to rip anyone for what they're into... we appreciate all cars, styles, and interests. We just happen to like rats, what they stand for, and the creativity behind their designs.
Steve Thaemert, Sr. CEO My old man, he's the car guy. He's been building or racing stock cars since the day I was born, and he's always got some sort of project car in the shop - most likely several of them. If its got wheels, he'll find a way to modify or race it. Hell, he's had lawnmowers that put some street cars to shame. (no joke) Sr is a true old school American character... always looking for a conversation.
Steve Thaemert, Jr. Editor/Art Director Ya, that's me. Never was good with a wrench, but I always had a knack for drawing and painting. I make my living as a graphic designer and an internet marketing specialist. My dad got me thinking about these rat rods, and the more I learned about 'em, the more I liked 'em. To me, its an art form. Just like this magazine... heavy on visual impact, light on fluff. All character. All Rat. Thanks, dad.
Together Sr and I are growing this magazine the blue-collar way. The only B.S. will be over a twelve-pack in a heated garage, not between the pages. We're looking to push the envelope a bit and break through some of the old hot rod paradigms. It's not that we dislike painted or restored vehicles... quite the opposite, in fact. We love cars - period. All kinds of cars, bikes, and other things that go fast, look cool, and make noise. We're not getting into bashing the "other side" crap. We just have a special affinity towards rat rods and want to promote and document rat rod culture. (yeah, I spelled it with a C, so shoot me)
My dad and I pour a lot of passion into what we are doing here, but we can't do it alone. This year we added some amazing people to the mix...
Chad Truss Photographer/Assistant Art Director I haven't known Chad very long, but in that short time I've really grown to appreciate his photography and artistic eye. He's emerged as a very important member of the RRM design team and is a heck of a guy to boot. His photography has helped transform the magazine into something extraordinary, and his passion for rat rods (and cars in general) shines through in all of his work. Chad is a great guy to work with and goes above and beyond to get the best photos possible.
Tim & Jessica Tomsche PR/Magazine Reps Tim, lovingly nicknamed "The Hippie," "Slagfoot," and "Twizzler Toes," joined the RRM team as a car enthusiast and all around good guy. His wife jessica, lovingly nicknamed "Jessica," also joined our team to help promote the magazine (and keep an eye on her other half.) Both Tim and Jess bring passion to the staff and much needed task support. As hot rod owners themselves, they are always out-and-about at various events and establishments... most likely sporting a Rat Rod Magazine t-shirt and a handful of flyers.
